Planner - Planning, Zoning & Building Department
SALARY: Depending on Qualifications

The Town of Longboat Key is seeking Planner to fill a vacancy in the Planning, Zoning & Building Department.

The Planner is responsible for conducting studies and collecting and analyzing data for application to the Town’s Comprehensive Plan.  The objective is to preserve and enhance the Town’s natural and structural aesthetic land use and development through practical application of the Town plan, Land Development Code and all applicable established zoning and code regulations.

Under executive direction, with considerable independent judgment and initiative in carrying out organizational objectives, the purpose of the position is concerned with current and comprehensive planning, development review, and special planning studies.  The position interprets and implements land use regulations, codes and ordinances for the planning and development of the Town.  The Planner evaluates development projects for appropriate policy implementation of the comprehensive plan and reviews conformance with adopted ordinances and regulations.

The Town is a Drug Free Workplace, in compliance with the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988, in § 440.102, FS and Rules 59A-24 F.A.C (Florida Administrative Code).  State and federal laws and regulations may subject certain employees to additional drug testing requirements. Any employee who violates the program is subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERRED:   Masters degree in urban planning or related field, such as landscape architecture, environmental studies, or architecture.  American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) membership.

REQUIRED:   Bachelor’s Degree in Planning or related field; supplemented by five (5) to seven (7) years responsible professional planning experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
