Tropical Storm Hermine Update - 9-2-16

Tropical Storm Hermine Update – September 2, 2016

Tropical Storm Hermine continues to affect our region with bands of rain and severe thunderstorms.  The storm is predicted to stall and then begin to diminish late this afternoon and evening.

We will continue to experience street flooding in low-lying areas, higher than normal tides, rainfall, and a chance for tornadoes.

Residents are asked to remain off the roadways unless you are required to travel.  If you must go out, please monitor the weather to travel during periods between rain bands and the associated severe weather.

Because of flooding on Anna Maria, the Anna Maria Island Trolley, Beach Express and Longboat Key Trolleys will not run today and will not resume until Island roads are passable.

Town staff are responding to calls of downed trees that block roadways, and continuing to monitor storm drains to minimize impacts of flooding.

Waste Management advises that due to impassable roads on the following streets, solid waste pickup will be on Tuesday, September 6th.   The affected streets are St. Jude’s, North and South, Gulf Bay Road, Tarawitt, Jungle Queen, and Companion Way.
