Thank you so much for your rapid response when half our large cedar tree fell down and completely blocked Gulf Links Road during the storm Hermine. I don't think it was five minutes before someone arrived to assess the situation and got things cleared away. Much appreciated! - Melanie C. 9/2/16

This being the first time returning to my home on Longboat Key so early in the season, I was moved to see all the flags placed along GMD on 9/11. Remembering all those lost on that tragic day. As a retired captain of the NYC Fire Department and in attendance on that day, I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Mark Kerr and the other town employees, for placing all those flags. Their efforts do not go unappreciated. We will never forget. - Capt. Robert Collis. FDNY (Retired)
Year after year I am overwhelmed as I come to work on 9/11… the anniversary of that tragic day. And always, as I leave work on 9/10, I see your department undertaking the enormous task of placing 2,977 flags along Gulf of Mexico Drive… end to end! This is such a beautiful tribute to all those who put their lives on the line to save others as well as all those innocent people, who perished during this terrible attack on America. I know I write, with tremendous gratitude, for all of us here at Longboat Key Fire Rescue, Longboat Key Police Department, our fellow employees, and the citizens and visitors of Longboat Key…with a huge THANK YOU !!!!! - A Lathrop 9/11/14

"Just a quick note to say thank you for being so responsive to our panicked call from The Outrigger Resort recently. "Doc" was very nice and helpful even though it was not a town water problem. Thanks again for your help." - Betty J., 5-4-14
"On behalf of Country Club Shores Unit 3, I would like to thanks Mark Richardson and your department for the fabulous job they did restoring the street lights at the entrance to Outrigger, Gunwale, Hornblower and Spinnaker Lanes. They were in such terrible condition, but now they are like new and will illuminate for many more years. We all very much appreciate the efforts of your department." - Susan M., 3-31-14
"I had your guys out a couple of weeks ago because of water pressure issues. While the problem was on my side of the meter, Ron Thornton nailed the issues (I had two separate issues) so I was able to focus my plumber on the source of the problem. He was also kind enough to drop by the following day to check on the progress. Personal attention like that makes the tax bill a bit more palatable. Thanks for running a service oriented department." - Jim C., 12-2-13
"Thank you so much for your department's efforts in once again placing the flags down Gulf of Mexico Drive in honor of those we lost on 9/11/01. For 12 years you have made Longboat Key proud. It is always a thrill to come on the island and see those flags stretched out before me. I am sure our visitors and residents feel the same way." - Gail L., LBK Chamber of Commerce

Weldon F. called today regarding a great assist that he witnessed at a neighbor’s house. He stated that his neighbor had a water leak in her yard and could not locate the shut-off valve. His neighbor noticed a Public Works employee passing by and asked if he would help her. The employee located the shut-off valve after searching through a complicated system of pipes, etc. He turned off the water and calmed the lady who had asked for his assistance. The caller said he had never witnessed such kindness in all the time he had lived here and called Public Works to be sure the young man received praise for a job well done. - Weldon F., 12-31-12.

Just wanted to drop you a quick note to recognize the folks in the Public Works area. My water bills have been pretty big since I moved in a few months back and I exhausted every remedy I tried to put in place. I called your folks on Tuesday to explain my dilemma, and on Wednesday morning I goat a call from Brad who came out to my house and found an underground leak and a bad connection installed by my builder just after the water meter. My builder is working on it as we speak. One day turnaround is admirable for any industry. We pay more than our fair share of taxes in Longboat but it makes it far more palatable when you get this of service. Thanks for running a great shop! - Jim C., 9-14-12.
Many thanks for the very prompt repair to the water system here at the North End last week. - Pat Z, 8-31-12.

This letter is commending the public works and police departments for their prompt response to a broken water main in front of our residence on Bogey Lane. We reported the problem after 5 o'clock on November 28. There was an immediate response by the police, who protected the area and called the public works department. They responded in excellent time with necessary personnel and equipment. They worked late and corrected the problem. The supervisor advised me everything was under control. I think he was also advising me that my supervision was no longer needed. I retired and slept well after witnessing dedicated city employees efficiently spending the town's tax dollars. Both departments are to be commended. - Earley B, 12-6-11
Thank you to you and your staff for your assistance during our recent severe weather on March 30, 2011. We appreciate all you did to keep our staff safe and our building secure. We are most appreciative of the Public Works employee, Donna Spencer, for her assistance and the other Public Works' employees who put up the three signs along Gulf of Mexico Drive announcing the Home Tour... - Sarah T, LBK Garden Club Home Tour Chair, 3-9-11
