Planning & Zoning Board (P&Z Board)

The Planning & Zoning Board shall consist of seven members appointed by the Town Commission. All members must be registered voters and residents of the Town of Longboat Key. No member shall be an elected official or employee of the town. All members must attend a sunshine and public records law class within three months of their appointment (Ordinance 2010-09).
All terms of appointment shall be for a period of three years. The term of appointment shall expire on the second Wednesday of May of the year in which the term is set to expire. Vacancies shall be filled by appointments for the unexpired term.
Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA)

The ZBA shall consist of five members appointed by the Town Commission. All members must be registered voters and residents of the Town of Longboat Key. No member shall be an elected official or employee of the town.
All terms of appointment shall be for a period of three years and shall expire on the second Wednesday in May of the year in which the term is set to expire. Appointments to fill any vacancy on the zoning Board of Adjustment shall be for the unexpired term of the member whose term becomes vacant. All members must attend a sunshine and public records law class within three months of their appointment (Ordinance 2010-09).
The Zoning Board of Adjustment shall establish rules and regulations for its own operation not inconsistent with the provisions of applicable state statutes or of this chapter.
Code Enforcement Board (CEB)
Town Code Reference: 33.03 Establishment; members
The CEB shall consist of seven members appointed by the Town Commission. All members must be registered voters and residents of the Town of Longboat Key. The Code Enforcement Board shall, whenever possible, consist of persons experienced in their respective fields as follows: 1) Architect; 2) Businessman; 3) Engineer; 4) General Contractor; 5) Subcontractor; 6) Realtor. No member shall be an elected official or employee of the town.
All terms of appointment shall be for a period of three years and shall expire on the second Wednesday in May of the year in which the term is set to expire. Appointments to fill any vacancy on the Code Enforcement Board shall be for the remainder of the unexpired term of office. Any member who fails to attend three consecutive scheduled and called regular meetings shall automatically forfeit his appointment, and the Town Commission shall promptly fill the vacancy.
Citizens Tax Oversight Committee

Tasks
This committee is tasked with:
1) review the expenditures to insure they are in accordance with the project list and any changes thereto
2) note any changes made by the Town to the project list
3) to report the Committee’s findings to the Town Commission no later than the May Regular Workshop Meeting of each year.
The committee was established as the Blue Ribbon Committee in 1989. In 1999 the name of the committee was changed to Citizens Tax Oversight Committee. This committee was reestablished by Longboat Key Resolution 2010-13 on April 5, 2010. The Sarasota County Commissioners through adoption of Sarasota County Ordinance 2007-87 continuing this Board through December 31, 2024. (4 year appointments)
Consolidated Retirement System Board of Trustees
Town Code Reference: Section 34.100
Ordinance 2014-26 was adopted by the Town Commission on September 8, 2014, whereby new Sections 34.100 through 34.102 were created: Consolidated Retirement System. Effective October 1, 2014, consolidation of the three pension plans occurred with one retirement plan, one retirement board of trustees, one consolidated retirement fund (by 10-01-2015), and one rate of return assumption. Membership consists of: one elected police officer representative, one elected firefighter representative, one elected general employee representative, five Town Commission appointed residents, and one Town Manager designee.
