Begin Election Qualifying Period

Qualifying Period Begins October 1, Ends November 18.

  

36.03 - Candidate qualifications.

Unless otherwise required by applicable Florida law, the qualifying period for a general election shall be from October 1 through the third Monday in November by 12:00 noon, as outlined herein. An elector seeking qualification as a proposed commission candidate of the town shall be qualified as a candidate for public office on the filing by the elector, in person, of at least 10 properly completed petitions signed by electors of the town requesting the name of the proposed candidate be placed on the ballot for a vacancy in office to be voted on at the next preliminary, special, or annual election. Such filing shall be with the supervisor of elections office in the county in which the electors signing the petitions are registered to vote no later than 11:00 a.m. and certified by the supervisor of elections office with notice of certification to the town clerk no later than 12:00 noon, on the third Monday in November or on the following business day no later than 12:00 noon if the third Monday in November falls on a nonbusiness day. The proposed candidate is responsible for ensuring his/her submitted petitions are properly completed and timely processed by the supervisor of elections office in which the petitions are filed. In those cases where the candidate is qualifying for a particular district, the petitions for the candidate shall be signed by electors from that district and where the candidate is qualifying for District Four or one at large district, the petitions for the candidate shall be signed by any ten electors of the town, certified in the county in which the electors signing the petitions are registered to vote.
