August 2024

Ongoing project activities include:

PHASE 1 (south end: New Pass Bridge to north end of Country Club Shores):

The Project Team is pleased to report that all work has been completed within Phase 1 and all FPL poles have been removed.

PHASE 2 (north end: Dream Island Road to Longboat Pass Bridge):

Phase 2 is fully complete and all poles have been removed!

PHASE 3 (north end of Country Club Shores to County line):

All of the transformers in Phase 3 have been energized. The service conversions are 86% complete.

Based on Wilco's Phase 3 neighborhood completions to date, pole wreck-out is eligible to begin on the side streets off of GMD. FPL has started the internal process to schedule these removals.

PHASE 4 (County line to Dream Island Road):

Undergrounding infrastructure is complete. All of the needed equipment updates have been installed. The feeder in Phase 4 is energized and Wilco is working on energizing all of the transformers in the Phase (68% completed). Service conversions are planned to begin the week of 8/26/24.

Other:

FPL has completed almost all of the pedestal pad raising for the transformers adversely affected by Hurricane Idalia. This is expected to be completed by the end of August.

Street Lighting

All original Gulf of Mexico Drive highway streetlights have been installed. Phase 2 streetlights are complete as well. Phase 4 has eight (8) lights in the neighborhoods where an overhead electric line is in the way.  Once de-energized and wires removed by FPL, these will be installed.

Backlit Street Name Signs

The Town is initiating a project with our Underground Contractor, Wilco Electrical, LLC to replace all public street name signs along Gulf of Mexico Drive. Sign poles are on order.  Pending receipt, Wilco anticipates being able to start installations in approximately 2 - 3 months. Poles will be decorative black and street names will be LED illuminated with white lettering and blue background.
