Municipal Elections for Commissioners

All registered voters of Longboat Key, regardless of which District or County they might reside, have the ability to vote for Commissioners in every District election, as well as for At-Large Commission seats.

This right is expressed in the Town's Charter.

Article II, "Section 2 Creation of commission; residency requirements, election and terms of office of commissioners.

(a) The town commission shall consist of seven (7) electors of the town. Two (2) commissioners shall be elected at large. The remaining five (5) commissioners shall reside in and be nominated from each of the five districts of the town as set forth in Section 1. Commissioners shall be elected by the qualified electors residing in all five districts at general election. Until the March 2020 general election, commissioners shall hold office for a two (2) year term beginning on the day of the certification of the election. Until the March 2020 general election, one (1) commissioner-at-large and commissioners from odd-numbered districts shall be elected in even-numbered years. Until the March 2021 general election, one (1) commissioner-at-large and commissioners from even-numbered districts shall be elected in odd-numbered years.

(b) Commencing with the March 2020 general election and continuing thereafter, commissioners from odd-numbered districts shall be elected to hold office for a three (3) year term beginning on the date of the certification of the election. Commencing with the March 2020 general election one at large commissioner shall be elected at the March 2020 general election for a two (2) year term beginning on the date of certification of that election. At the conclusion of that at-large commissioner's two (2) year term, commencing with the March 2022 general election and continuing every three (3) years thereafter, a commissioner elected to that at-large seat shall be elected to hold office for a three (3) year term beginning on the date of certification of the election.

(c) Commencing with the March 2021 general election and continuing thereafter commissioners from even-numbered districts shall be elected to hold office for a three (3) year term beginning on the date of certification of the election. Commencing with the March 2021 general election one at large commissioner shall be elected at the March 2021 general election for a one (1) year term beginning on the date of certification of that election. At the conclusion of that at-large commissioner's one (1) year term, commencing with the March 2022 general election and continuing every three (3) years thereafter, a commissioner elected to that at-large seat shall be elected to hold office for a three (3) year term beginning on the date of certification of the election."
