The Fire Prevention Division is charged with the responsibility of reducing injuries, death and fire loss caused by fires through the enforcement of state and local fire codes, building codes, and through proactive public education. This is accomplished by a thorough review of all construction plans prior to the issuance of a building permit and continued follow-up inspections to ensure that the building is built and maintained in compliance with life safety codes.

The Fire Marshal manages and supervises the activities and personnel associated with the Fire Prevention Division. He works closely with the Building Official, Architects, Engineers, Contractors and Public Officials regarding building construction and fire code requirements.

The staff of the Fire Prevention Division consists of a combination of key shift personnel, who are state certified fire inspectors and perform inspections on existing commercial properties to ensure compliance with fire safety requirements.
