Removal/Disposal of Contaminated Non-Beach Compatible Sand on Private Properties

  • Private property owners are strongly encouraged to have all contaminated sand removed from their property using a private contractor. If the owner is unable to have the sand removed, the Town will accept sand on the public right-of-way, and will be picked up at a later date to be determined. The material must be placed in a manner as to not block any access points and also separated away from other storm debris and material stacked/staged in the right-of-way for removal.  The Town is currently prioritizing resources to remove other storm-related debris from the island during this recovery period. Please be patient as the recovery process is underway and will be handled accordingly.

Clean Beach Compatible Sand on Private Properties

  • Private property owners are encouraged to place all clean sand back on the beach side, preferably at the previous dune/berm locations. Clean sand is defined by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as follows: In general, all fill material shall be sand that is similar to the pre-storm beach sand in coloration and grain size. It shall be free of debris, rock, clay, organic matter or other foreign matter and shall not result in cementation of the beach.
